 Background 

Fa’s interest for drawing starts only after she was 11years old when she was encouraged by her elementary school teacher who presented her work to the class. Since then, Fa developed an interest in drawings, choosing to later go into the arts stream in secondary school, rather than the science stream. Since then, she got more and more training from her very kind hearted teacher. Alas, Fa wasn’t confident of entering any of the arts school. And so off she ventures into something close to it, the multimedia.

Fa grew to love digital illustration more and more, particularly vector drawing. She aspired to one day sell her illustrations on t-shirts and have her own shop. Her family expectations however, forced her to follow the norm – find a job and stay there for as long as possible. And so Fa started out working as a web designer, something that she never truly want to work as. A few months after starting her first job, she developed an RSI, bilateral Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), due to excessive and bad arm support on the computer. A few months later, she fell into depression.

It was a crazy moment for her as she struggles through the pain and depression, seeing many ugly visions in her mind, haunting her day and night. Her medicine too, initially numbed her mind so bad, she lived like a mindless zombie for awhile. Thoughts of suicide and murder were often on her mind. It didn’t help that her friends were mostly disgusted or disbelieved her illness.

It took Fa more than two years to gather enough courage and savings to leave the corporate world for good and live for herself. Thoughts of murder or suicide stopped. She decided to simply live for herself and work hard on recovery and gaining her own happiness.

Since then, it took Fa several months to figure out what to do. For a start, all she did was playing games and working on her drawings. She then joined RedBubble.com, and online art community and print on demand website. Since then, life started to change for the better. She was greatly encouraged by the lovely comments and support she got from the fellow artists there. Slowly, she started to make some sales. She’d never forget her very first sale, which she later found out was by her very own close friend and fellow bubbler, Karin Taylor. Fa found Karin on RedBubble, and was extremely intrigued and amazed by her lovely paintings of mixed media. Karin too, was tickled by Fa’s funny witty monster designs and cute little animals. They’re always there to help and encourage each other during the good and bad days. One in Australia. One in Singapore. Both became great friends of each other. Fa realised that Karin is the only one who truly believes in her and her little creations.

After much struggle and research, Fa managed to start up her own physical store with the help of SIP’s project – Pop and Talent Hub Market. Once again, if it wasn’t for Karin, Fa wouldn’t have the strength and courage and belief to start out her own little business. And so she couldn’t help but ask Karin for her permission to resell her artworks over here in Singapore. Karin, being the sweetest kindest friend Fa has, agreed and since then, Frozenfa physical stall features designs by both Karin and herself. Fa couldn’t have felt more blessed to have such a friend in Karin.

Till today, Frozenfa stall has been with PaTH Market for over a year. Fa’s family has finally accepted her wish to live her life, her way. Her brother also became another source of strength as he continues helping her at her stall. Fa sells Karin’s and her designs on several different merchandises such as tshirts, greeting cards, handphone straps, glass pendants, keychains, badges and poster prints.

Fa loves to make people smile. She loves to joke. When people smile or laughs at the sight of her designs, it makes her happy. She's just happy to know that she's able to make someone out there smile or maybe even brighten up their day~ And happier when she meet the few who understands and/or emphasize with her dark SilentCries series of work.

Fa hopes that through Frozenfa and SilentCries series of drawings, she can encourage people, to express themselves more freely. Her best selling series - T.I.M (Twisted Inner Monster), appeals both the young and old as it represents the feelings and thoughts we tend to have, but never expressed out loud. Her tagline – Wear Your Feelings.
